Why do we develop mental illness and how can we treat this. This has always been very difficult to determine. The book highlights the crossroads between medicine, magic, religion and science collecting the most important correlations between the person and healing. A further objective is that of inviting workers in the mental health sector (doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, religious ministers, educators and trainers) to be able to identify and verify the role of “magical thought” in development, falling ill and in healing. This book wishes to verify the function of this particular cognitive process: what are the thought processes that characterise mental health and which are those that trigger and maintain the psychodynamics of an illness? Explaining the answer to this question would allow us to have the same experience as the healers-healed: how the scars of the inner healer within the therapist can help to cure the wounds of the inner healer of the patient. In this way even a non-healthcare professional can work in a beneficial way.
